American Legion Auxiliary
Warren Unit #11 of the American Legion Auxiliary is dedicated to community service and service to veterans. Chartered in 1952, Warren Unit #11 has been affiliated with American Legion Post #104 since 104's inception in 2006.
The Auxiliary's many activities dedicated to veterans and/or the community include:
* For 22 years, the Auxiliary has organized the community effort that prepares and delivers holiday meals to the homebound, elderly and needy in Barrington, Bristol, Warren and Riverside. The holiday meals program serves an average of 200 people on Thanksgiving Day and 175 on Christmas Day.
* For 12 years, the Auxiliary has served as the East Bay's "Secret Santa," providing gifts of toys and clothes to needy children on Christmas. The "Secret Santa" program serves an average of 110 young people each Christmas.
* The Auxiliary assists American Legion Post #104, the Warren Association of Vietnam Veterans and the Warren Veterans Honor Roll Committee in their annual Veterans Day commemoration and in their Flag Day ceremony, in which an average of 2,000 worn and tattered flags are retired by fire in a dignified, patriotic ceremony.
* The Auxiliary raised funds for -- and was and is a major contributor to -- the Warren Veterans Honor Roll, which contains the names of all Warren residents who served during war-time, from the Revolutionary War to Irag and Afghanistan. Funds are raised to add names to the memorial every five years.
